I HAD a 24" TC Grey Hawk with both .50 and .54 barrels, both 48" twist.Reducing width by 25% reduces spring strength by 25%. Thinning by narrowing reduces strength proportionally. I use a hard arkansas stone on the face of the hammer to smooth it. Drum and nipple breeches are manure from several perspectives. Most modern patent breeches on the factory made guns are designed to be cheap to make and install. If the bore shows reamer marks across the rifling that may be the problem. If it's smooth then it's something else wrong, like the lube. As mentioned, check the patches for being cut.23. Location.
